About Laphroaig The Ian Hunter Story ‘Book 4 Malt Master’ 34 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
On a far stretch up north on the Scotch Whisky map lies the Laphroaig distillery, established in 1815 by two farmers, Donald, and Alexander Johnston. Their hard work on the land later became meticulous work in the distillery.
Along came Ian Hunter—the last member of the Johnston family but some say the most influential one. Later on, different protective custodians were appointed to take care of the distillery.
Despite their varied approaches, they all shared an intense respect for the Whisky making tradition and its elements, ranging from the Kilbride Stream, the floor malted barley, the cold-smoking kilns, the hand-cut peat, and the sophistication of oak aging.
Laphroaig’s esteemed expression, the 34 Years Old 2022 Ian Hunter Book 4, pays homage to none other than Ian Hunter—a man who marked the course of Laphroaig’s history by introducing this yummy Scotch to America during Prohibition and was one of the first ones to use American White Oak casks.
He established Laphroaig’s malting floors—an addition that would make Laphroaig what it is today! This limited edition expression was matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry casks and is the fourth installment in the Ian Hunter series, bottled at 46.2% ABV with honey and black pepper aromas, alongside peach and orange blossom flavors together with the signature Laphroaig peat and a Wood smoke finish.
