Now owned by a Scotch multinational colossus Diageo, its humble beginnings started in 1819, when a 14-year-old Johnnie opened a grocery in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, and started blended whiskies from local spirits.

The most notable contributions were the introduction of the square bottle design and the slanting label in the 1860s.
