About Krug Grande Cuvée 169th Edition Brut Champagne
Joseph Krug was a visionary with a keen understanding of the essence of Champagne. He had a vision of an uncompromising Champagne that would showcase the best each year could offer, regardless of the climate variations.
Delving deep into what makes each plot and vineyard tick, he started building an extensive library of reserve wines. Krug was established in 1843 with Joseph pouring his visionary philosophy into each bottle. Under the guidance of his son Paul, the House was established as a grande marque.
6 generations later, the Champagne House is owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, yet the Krug family continues to be involved in all the key decisions, driving the operation forward and following in the footsteps of its founder.
Today, the Champagne House produces its flagship Grande Cuvée, along with a Rosé, and several vintage wines, utilizing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier varietals. The House owns 30% of the vineyards that are used in the production of its wines.
Krug Grande Cuvée 169th Edition Brut Champagne is their flagship wine. It’s a blend of 146 wines from 11 vintages that range from 2013 to 2000. The blend consists of Pinot Noir (43 %), Chardonnay (35 %), and Meunier (22 %), 40% of these being reserve wines.
The bottles had been resting in the cellars for 7 years. The essence of the Krug style, this Champagne is rich and elegant, pairing well with parmesan, Comté cheese, oysters, shrimp, Moroccan dishes, and desserts, but is delicious as an aperitif.
