The 2021-release of unpeated single malt from Nikka’s Yoichi distillery takes a turn from the distillery’s usual smoky character.
Aromas of malted barley, acacia honey, garden herbs and ripe fruit fill the nose, complemented by notes of lively citrus, vanilla, malted barleys, aniseed, cream and roasted hazelnuts throughout the palate.
Appearance: Pale gold.
Nose: Peach, apricot, melon, rich malt, light banana, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon.
Palate: Sweet, rich malt. Lots of depth. Very fruity, with lots of stone fruit, melon. Vanilla, malt sugar, oak.
Finish: Long, sweet, fruity, spicy.
Overall: A really unbelievable fruitiness, with great malt depth and a good deal of age showing as well. Almost worth the ridiculous price.
Yoichi Non-Peated Single Malt is made only from unpeated malts, contrary to the usually “peated” vision associated with Yoichi. This experience results in an elegant and delicate balance, full of richness, oscillating between fruity and smoky notes, characteristic of direct heating of the stills over a coal fire.

From the outset, a first observation is obvious: it suits him well. Indeed, it is with great naturalness and generosity that this version takes us along the abundantly malty, fruity or even spicy paths of an aromatic and taste palette which in turn evokes the Lowlands and Speyside regions.
